Technical Training

MUMA provides local leaders with the tools that they need to become more effective policymakers. Our training equips leaders with tangible skills in citizen-focused policy making, including:

Drafting of legislation
The art of legislative negotiation
Parliamentary practices and procedures
Constitutionalism and constitution-making
Participatory governance and citizen-involved policymaking
Budget making and public resource allocation
Government accountability
Accountable governance and oversight
Effective communication and messaging of policy

Participants are exposed to best practices from other jurisdictions and taken through practical exercises and simulations to enhance their grasp of key aspects of local governance.

Transformational Leadership Training

MUMA’s comprehensive approach pairs technical training with leadership training. Our leadership curriculum reinforces practical competencies that leaders need to effect change at the local level. This includes:

Similar to our technical training modules, participants are engaged in practical exercises that mimic the day-to-day leadership challenges that leaders face.

MUMA has a roster of experienced subject matter experts, professional facilitators, and trainers who lead our training workshops. MUMA has developed a high quality curriculum that is both rigorous and practical to meet the unique needs of leaders at the local level.

Technology

In addition to annual training workshops, MUMA leverages technology to connect participants to additional governance resources, including online courses and certificate programs, masterclasses, and lectures among other online resources.

MUMA makes available its curricula, training materials, and other proprietary resources to like-minded institutions focused on issues of local governance.
